Battle Creek's Justice Center, not the county seat in Marshall, is where Calhoun County's courts sit. The 10th District Court there handles tickets, misdemeanors, evictions, and small claims, the 37th Circuit Court handles felonies and major civil or family cases, and probate keeps estates and guardianships. Three courts, one roof, separate files. Pull up a Calhoun County court docket through the statewide case search by name or case number, check which court the entry belongs to, and take copy requests, older-file questions, and hearing confirmations to that court's clerk.

Calhoun Court Docket Codes C37 D10 P13

Three little codes save a lot of wrong turns. Code C37 is the direct MiCOURT route to the 37th Circuit Court. That court holds felony, family, domestic-relations, adoption, juvenile, protective-order, major civil, and county appeal matters. Code D10 opens the docket for the 10th District Court. It is home to many misdemeanors, traffic and civil-infraction cases, ordinances, small claims, and limited civil matters. For estates, trusts, guardianships, conservatorships, and specified mental-health matters, P13 is the Probate Court route. Know which code fits your case type. It points you to the right register on the first try.

You can reach a Calhoun County court docket through the statewide landing page. A direct court path also works. Once you know the court, the direct path is usually simpler. For the P13 route and Probate Court services, start with the Calhoun Probate Court page, the official local source. It carries the court's own service information and links.

Probate case history is its own court docket. The Probate Court shares the Justice Center with the other trial courts, but its register stays separate.

Inside a Calhoun County Court Docket

A Register of Actions tells a case's story in date order. Each public entry can show a lot: the court, case number, category, filing date, parties, judicial officer, hearing setting, event text, and broad status. Criminal histories may list charges, plea or trial events, sentencing, and financial entries. Civil histories may cover service, motions, orders, judgments, and appeals. Probate histories walk through petitions, notices, hearings, and orders.

Be careful what a label proves. A scheduled hearing may not have happened, and an allegation is not a conviction. Read the later disposition, judgment, or order before concluding anything. A document may not be linked online. The event date and title then give the clerk enough to pull the right item.

One Calhoun Justice Center Three Dockets

The Calhoun County Justice Center in Battle Creek is the public location for Circuit, District, and Probate Court. One roof, three courts. The shared address does not create one combined clerk or a single all-case database. Each court keeps its own Register of Actions and its own MiCOURT route. The county Clerk and Register of Deeds plays a different administrative role. It is not the usual keeper of the trial-court register.

Start with the case subject, not the building. A felony can pass through early District Court events before a bind-over to Circuit Court. An estate belongs to Probate Court. That holds whether the party lives in Battle Creek, Albion, Marshall, or Springfield. Searching the correct court directly is the practical first check.

Note: A shared courthouse location does not mean each clerk can issue records from the other courts.

Courts That Keep Dockets in Calhoun County

Michigan's trial-court structure gives Calhoun County three local records paths. Circuit Court holds general jurisdiction. District Court takes limited-jurisdiction cases and the main traffic and civil-infraction docket. Probate Court keeps a separate register. An appeal starts from the trial-court record, and a separate Michigan Court of Appeals file may then open.

CourtDocket coversWhere to search
37th Circuit CourtFelonies, major civil claims of $25,000 or more, family, domestic, juvenile, protective orders, and appeals.C37 in MiCOURT or the Circuit Court Clerk.
10th District CourtMisdemeanors, traffic, civil infractions, ordinances, small claims, and district civil matters.D10 in MiCOURT or the District Court Clerk.
Calhoun County Probate CourtEstates, wills, trusts, guardianships, conservatorships, and specified mental-health matters.P13 in MiCOURT or the Probate Register.

The courts coordinate administration under a Michigan concurrent-jurisdiction plan. Even so, each remains a separate court with separate docket responsibilities.

Calhoun Court Docket MiFile Availability

Reading a docket and filing into one are different tasks. The MiFile / TrueFiling's available-courts directory lists Calhoun's 10th District and Probate courts as electronic-filing courts. The 37th Circuit Court is different. Its county page states it is not a MiFile court at this time. That filing split changes nothing about where you read a case. MiCOURT remains the Register of Actions layer for C37, D10, and P13.

A filed document can appear as a Register event with no public download link. Filers should follow each court's own filing instructions. Anyone simply hunting a case should run the public case search. Request a document from the clerk when needed.

The county's District Court page is another official local source. It lists court services and search links for the court.

The local District page gathers court services in one spot. The public case history itself still runs through the correct MiCOURT court route.

How to Find Court Dates and Settings

Need a Calhoun County court date? Start with the newest hearing or setting event in the case Register. Then cross-check that against the right Circuit or District daily docket. Add the public CourtDisplay calendar. Each CourtDisplay row lists Party Name, Time, Room, and Case Number. That is enough to spot a setting tied to a specific day. Still, it is only a calendar row. It is not the full case history or an official confirmation.

Resets, continuances, and adjournments all move settings. A stale calendar row can linger after the date changes. Trust a newer register entry or order over an older row. When entries conflict, confirm the near-term date with the applicable clerk. The same goes when nothing shows at all. The fuller process is laid out under Calhoun County Court Dates.

Calhoun Court Docket Calendar Checks

Calhoun County publishes daily schedule links on separate Circuit and District pages. They cover its judges, referees, magistrates, and in-custody arraignments. The Circuit daily-docket page makes a good local starting point. Pick the court or judicial officer. Set the date. Then compare the room and time shown against the case history.

There is also a text or email reminder option for a single scheduled case. After you confirm the request, it sends one reminder per event. It arrives two or three business days ahead. Handy, but it does not replace checking the docket itself. Courts remain open to the public. The county cautions that hearings may not be broadcast on YouTube.

The official Circuit schedule page is a local calendar source.

Public Access to Court Dockets

Michigan opens its court records to the public. A rule, statute, or order can say otherwise. The public MiCOURT display is a fair first stop. Yet it can exclude case types, suppress restricted results, or leave documents out. Juvenile, child-protective, adoption, and similar sensitive matters carry added limits. So a missing public result proves nothing. The case may still exist.

Michigan court-record rules:

MCR 8.119 requires trial courts to maintain case records and provides public access subject to restrictions and redaction.

MCR 1.109 addresses filing, electronic records, and protected personal identifiers.

MCL 712A.28 generally limits public access to post-2020 juvenile case records, subject to statutory exceptions.

Need a public document that is not online? Contact the clerk or register holding the case. A sealed or nonpublic entry can have a lawful access route for a party or another authorized person. The clerk cannot bypass the governing rule, though.

Calhoun Court Docket Files Are Not FOIA

Do not send a county FOIA request for a Calhoun County court file. The county's FOIA information page states this plainly. Courts are not public bodies for that process. Court records cannot be requested through FOIA. Instead, take any case-history, document, copy, or certification request straight to the clerk or register that keeps the case.

Geography matters here. In Marshall, the County Building handles administrative and FOIA functions. The trial-court clerks work out of the Justice Center in Battle Creek. The right counter depends on the record you want. It is not just the county name on it.

Note: The clerk can explain the records process. The clerk cannot give legal advice or override a nonpublic-record rule.

Docket Records at the Clerk's Office

Circuit case records live at the 37th Judicial Circuit Court Clerk's Office. For Circuit documents from 1984 to the present, the county says to contact the clerk in person or by email. Include the case number and known party information. Older material follows an age-based path. Modern records stay with clerk-held searches. A 1948-1983 microfilm lookup covers the middle era. Anything pre-1948 gets a referral after the clerk's lookup. District and Probate matters belong to their own clerk or register.

Circuit Clerk records instructions

A public register helps you figure out what to ask for. Name the event or document. Give its date if you know it. Say whether you need a plain or certified copy. Per the county's Circuit fee schedule, a certified copy costs $1 per page. A $10 certification charge applies on top.

Calhoun Court Docket Workload Context

Context on Calhoun's workload comes from the state court administrator's 2025 Judicial Resources Report. It frames the county's court work as a countywide system issue, not a prediction for any single case. The report put the need at 11.44 judges against nine current judgeships, with average workload at 127 percent. Its recommendation was one added Circuit judgeship. None of this predicts a date. Court calendars and docket updates shift for case-specific reasons.

One footnote in the official 2025 report matters for parking. Its District Court counts exclude parking tickets. So trace a city parking issue through its own ticket, court code, and court history. Do not infer it from a county caseload total.

Calhoun Court Docket Access

Mary S. Coleman now gives her name to the Justice Center. Calhoun County rededicated the building in August 2026. It was renamed in her honor. It is the local landmark that holds the public court counters. A ceremony cannot reshape how the records work. Circuit, District, and Probate still keep their own separate dockets under one roof.

The county's Justice Center rededication announcement carries the official details of the event.

For all four incorporated cities, the Justice Center works as the practical court-access hub. The correct clerk still depends on the case type.

Calhoun County Court Dockets by City

Calhoun County counts four incorporated cities, not five. Their 2020 Census populations range from the smallest city to the largest. Springfield sits at 5,292. Battle Creek stands at 52,721. None of the four runs its own municipal trial court docket. Each city clerk keeps municipal records and handles administration. A court docket for a citation or ordinance case is filed at D10. Subject matter decides where the rest lands. Circuit cases go to C37, while Probate matters sit at P13.

Calhoun Court Docket Terms

No county-specific code list appears on the local court pages. A short list of common terms can still help you follow a case through a Calhoun County court docket. When a code stays unclear, ask the clerk or read the full description in the Register.

Register of Actions
The clerk's chronological history of court events in a case.
Setting
A scheduled court event, such as an arraignment, motion hearing, trial, or review.
Continuance or reset
A change that moves a scheduled event to a later date rather than deciding the case.
Disposition
A recorded case outcome, such as dismissal, judgment, plea result, or settlement.

A brief docket entry may only show that something was filed or scheduled. The order, judgment, or clerk confirmation behind it carries the authoritative detail when it counts.

Circuit Court files, along with the 10th District Court and Probate Court records, are kept at the Calhoun County Justice Center, 161 E. Michigan Avenue, in Battle Creek. All three courts share this one building rather than separate courthouses, so the correct clerk counter depends on the case type: the 37th Circuit Court Clerk's Office for felony, major civil, and family matters, 10th District Court for tickets and misdemeanors, and the Probate Court for estates and guardianships.
